Mia’s Campaign Signs have been Defaced – “Senseless Vandalism”
With 38 days remaining until the election, I am disappointed to know that people would do this. “The defacing of these signs is not only vandalism but an infringement on the right of political free speech”. This is the third opportunity that I have had to campaign within this community and I have never had anything like this to happen. I have had a few signs to be kicked over or taken in the past, but it is clear that this was not the handy work random citizens. It is clear that my signs have been deliberately targeted, considering the signs of other candidates in the same vicinity are not damaged at all.
We need all of our supporters to be on the look-out for this activity. If you witness someone defacing campaign signs or removing yard signs from private property, please write down their license plate number, vehicle description and call 911. After reporting it to the authorities, please call the campaign at (904) 563-4481.
“Mia to Host Event to Register Voters Before the Deadline”
Mia’s “Hoop to Vote” basketball/voter’s registration event is scheduled for Saturday, July 26th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at William M. Raines High School, 3663 Raines Ave. While the event is designed to appeal to the Duval County residents, ages 18-35 who enjoy basketball, it also provides an opportunity for citizens to register or change their party affiliation for the August 26, 2008 Primary Election.
Citizens who wish to vote in the Primary Election must return their completed voter registration application to one of the elections offices (105 E. Monroe Street or 5200-2 Norwood Ave) or mail the application to the Supervisor of Elections Office at 105 East Monroe Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32202, by Monday July 28, 2008 at 6:00 pm. Mailed applications must be postmarked by July 28, 2008.
If a citizen has previously registered to vote, but needs to update their signature or have an absentee ballot mailed to their address, they must do so by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Voters already registered to vote in Florida, may change their permanent residential address or name up to and including Election Day and will be able to vote at their correct precinct in the Primary Election.
For more information regarding the voter registration deadline, contact Tracie Collier at (904) 630-8026 or (904) 219-0792.
