Over 875 voters help Councilwoman Mia Jones qualify for the District 14, State House of Representatives Race
Under Florida Statutes, candidates may qualify to appear on the ballot by paying a qualifying fee or by gathering petitions equal to 1% of the total registered voters of the House district as of the last general election. Councilwoman Jones’ campaign successfully collected over 875 petitions from voters in District 14, to secure her place on the ballot for the August 26 election.
"I wanted to qualify by petition because I recognize the importance of hearing from the voters and knowing that I have their support, especially since I would be required to resign my Council seat in order to run for the State Representative seat. Because of the receptive response of the voters in District 14, I am even more confident that this was the right decision,” said Jones.
Jones gathered petitions by going door-to-door throughout the district. Petitions were also collected at churches, neighborhood association meetings and community events. Many residents are excited about helping Jones qualify for the ballot and are proud to be a part of the election process.
"Mia hit the ground running when she was first elected to the City Council in 2003 and you can see the impact of her conscious efforts to make a positive difference in the lives of her constituents. That’s why it was my pleasure to assist her in reaching her goal,” said Mattie Medlock.
